Rant with Pauly: Shade range consistency

Hi everyone!

How’s everyone celebrating their Friday tonight? Another week has flown by and for some reason I always have this irritating, lingering thought of some palettes I’ve been seeing launched.

I’m sure they’re of great quality! Morphe and Kylie Cosmetics have had amazing reviews globally and their profits seem in good shape.

But let’s talk about color scheme, shall we. Has anyone ever seen eye looks and they detail in their caption how many colors they used and you just can’t believe it? Warm, bronzey tones have a lot of shade ranges in common so it’s easy for them to look opaque and just too similar..

Duh, these colors are so effortless for a casual and even sultry look. But the idea that they’re so general and easy to use, makes you even question if it’s worth buying. Here are some pics of Morphe’s and Kylie Cosmetic’s palettes.

I could give atleast 3 pans that literally look the same! The idea of placing your brush on your eyes and expecting pigmented, unique shades just doesn’t come across these. Is it even worth the purchase or effort into launching?

I was so excited for the Gigi Hadid x Maybelline series but the range was so shockingly sad! And similarly, they’re very warm, dull/opaque tones. The shades just seem the same and it doesn’t makes my eyes pop at first glance. It’s hard, I get it.

Maybe some creativity will inspire a new wave of warm, bronzer tones. I just want to see some different scheme brought to the table.

While we’re here, let me show you some palettes I’ve definitely been eyeing this week. Or maybe obsessing over!

Bella Hadid at CFDA Awards 2017 wearing Off-White designer brand

The stunning Bella Hadid once again making a breaking entrance for her elegant and urban combination of apparel by Off-White.

June 5th, Monday night was the CFDA Awards – an acronym for Council of Fashion Designers of America. To put this into perspective, if the Oscars are for the film industry and their attributions for the past year, the CFDA awards is for the fashion industry and designers waiting to be recognized and nominated for the highest, most prestigious awards.

Bella Hadid caught my eye for her leg-revealing, hot pink blazer dress and muted makeup look for the night. Not to mention pink is my favorite color, it seems Bella and I might have something in common.

Who’s the genius behind the dress? Fashion designer, Virgil Abloh, who was once Kanye West’s creative director backstage launched his brand, Off-White in 2013. Monday night he was nominated for ‘Emerging Talent’ by Swarovski Awards. He entered the colored carpet with Bella Hadid wrapped on his arm for his plus-one. Not a bad night for Mr. Virgil Abloh.

Off-White’s most recent Spring 2017 show carried a line of dark colored, edgy and urban styles from all ranges of models. It was said to be his career best by Vogue, but still having a long way to go to break through his steady ascent. Abloh said, “It feels elevated, more luxurious, and with an attention to taste. I’ve made an effort to be more concise.”

Hadid’s blazer dress makes this a needle in a haystack with her hot pink dress being the first pop of color I’ve seen in Off-White’s fashion line. This is a fashion statement in and of itself for Virgil Abloh’s versatile collection.

Her dress might have came with pants, but she skipped the bottoms to show off her lean, long legs – not complaining, her legs are stunning. The broad, collared shoulders came down the seams to give a wide arm appearance for movement and dimension within the blazer. The touch of pink added to the belt made the blazer sophisticated and in one-piece.

Hadid’s shoe choice seems to be an ongoing trend, the one with the clear straps; giving off an invisible and seductive look to the feet. Her short, black heels carried a delicate touch with the invisible toe straps and the belt buckle ankle straps. Good choice for a long night of walking and posing – although she’s been in much taller heels.

Her light pink hand bag was interesting and for the most part, questionable. MTV critiques called her clutch a ‘lunch bag with a twist’ and although I can’t 100 percent agree with that statement, the folded look over the top part of the clutch did give off a box-y feel. But nonetheless, I’ve been meaning to find a purse that fits all my junk inside because let’s be honest, small purses just aren’t working for me anymore. Suggestions?

Bella Hadid’s makeup artist for the night, Nina Park, based in New York had an idea for a muted look which in return, made the Off-White dress of the night take the stage. Elongated smokey liner and bronzed cheeks sculpted Hadid’s face with a pop of light washed pink lips. With little to no eye work done to the lower lash line, Bella Hadid gives off a baby doll, youthful face – although in the colored carpet, she gives off a serious face instead of a signature smile.

As far as Hadid’s hair, a classic blunt bangs look and an over the shoulder hair style will suffice. Not much styling was done to her hair but curling her ends inwards gave a vintage feel. Let’s not forget, the blazer dress was the main spotlight for the night. Having her hair down instead of in a high pony-tail gave off a business, sophisticated look; perfect for the long night out with Virgil Abloh by her side.

Bella Hadid never ceases to amaze me. What’s next on her fashion look-book? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Xoxo ~~~
