Don’t Think Too Hard: OOTD

Hello beautiful gals! Welcome back ❤

This week I wanted to wrap up some style inspo that is quick yet impactful. I always pick my outfit out the night before class or a big event. It saves SO much energy for the next day and relieves you of decision fatigue. The stress of trying to find an outfit under 5 minutes is so draining and honestly can turn your morning upside down if you’re already running late.

My OOTD is for allll my ladies who maybe aren’t ready to make a BOLD statement, yet are willing to be the center focus in a room. How is this possible? Easy… simple accessories take the cake and don’t strain the eyes.

Spring is approaching but the weather hasn’t called for skirts and bandeau’s just yet. Combat the shaky weather and wear a light, long sleeve shirt. That way when you take off your jacket, you’re not attacked with goosebumps but you’re also not dying of heat from a thick, long sleeve top.

This sheer, green top is from Wild Fable! Available at your local Target, how convenient is that! I recommend everyone see for themselves the simplicity of this brand. I got this top for $14 and I love pairing it with different necklaces each time. I think that’s the beauty of simple shirts too, the constant style change you can do everytime!

Whether ripped jeans are your style or not, they definitely add versatility to an outfit. From here it takes my OOTD for casual to chic. These jeans are high waisted which went perfectly with my short-torso top. For a day out, I don’t want to expose my stomach; high waisted jeans are essential for your closet!  I also decided to pair my jeans with light brown boots. Any boots would go but it balanced the dark, green top I had going on.

My staple of choice for an impactful outfit is the fanny pack. Is that the correct term or does it still sound corny? Oh well! I didn’t need a belt or an extravagant garment to tie the look together, in fact I made my life easier this week by adding all my essential tools like my phone directly to my waist line!

The confidence this brought to my walk knowing I had something special tied with my outfit made me go from casual to CHIC BAD-ASS. This fanny pack from Michael Kors was on sale and I had to snag it when I saw the leopard print design. This bold accessory matches with solid colors like my green top from Wild Fable. Which makes it that easier to style your outfits the night before.

Although you can’t see it, I’m wearing a wireless unlined bra from Victoria’s Secret which changed my life for the better. The jump from wired to wireless bras improved my flexibility throughout the day and changed how tops fit over me. A wireless bra gives my top a smooth finish on the sides without any bra bulges… No, I’m not afraid to admit it! The straps crossing over extentuate my collar bones and tie into that “I tried really hard but didn’t” look to my outfit with some more complexity.

Last but not least, my top gave a lot of room to add a chest piece. I wanted to keep the chest exposed and add a silver choker to not distract from my gold fanny pack. Thin chokers play up your outfit in a small but lasting way. I got mine from Forever 21 for $6!

How did you like my simple OOTD? Save yourself the stress of complex tops and transfrom a simple top to an effortless glam. No, you don’t have to splurge on Michael Kors to get a fanny pack. Check out Wild Fable from Target or Forever 21 at your local mall. I think fanny packs are going to make a comeback for their easy, accessible features in cute designs.. you heard it here first folks!

Tell me your simple OOTD of the week!

Much love from Virginia ❤ Thank you so much for reading and believing in me!

New school year, new school style

By Paulina A. Marinero –

So you’re about to embark on a new journey as a college freshie or you’re returning back to school after a reviving summer of pool dates and Netflix nights – either way, you’re almost ready to start a new academic year with promising grades and a new attitude to life.

You got it figured out until you’re starting to pack for school and you forget the most important influence to a new you, your new wardrobe.

There’s no mystery to the saying, “when you look good, you feel good” and having a positive mindset to a new school year can be the difference between late-night panic attacks and waking up early to start your coffee for a bright, new day in front of you. Dressing for success can alter your energy for the day and the way you approach people and new ideas for the upcoming week.

Before you start your first week of classes, take an opportunity to evaluate your wardrobe and the new you. Does the new you reflect your current style? Now before you make any irrational decisions, let’s talk about what it means to dress for success as a college student and what it means for a brighter, more intuitive you.

The first week of school is all about first impressions – meeting your professors and peers for the first time, you want to leave an unforgettable impression that you’re here to conquer campus and leave your mark. What better way to show that than with your style?

You’ll want to wear something casual and maybe add a little glam if you’re extra like me. Light wash jeans, bedazzled shorts, a “Clueless” inspired skirt – anything you’re comfortable in that you would wear on a regular basis. Although there isn’t really a dress code enforced at most campuses, feel free to wear your favorite tank top or keep it super simple with a white v-neck or a floral bodysuit! Can you envision yourself at the mall with your new outfit, even proudly discussing where you picked it up?

Grab a necklace and pair it with a few bracelets to complete the outfit! Adding accessories can lift your style from simple to glam in seconds. Be sure to match your gold necklace with gold bracelets or with silver, vice versa. Take some inspo from two of my favorite and affordable chic stores, Charlotte Russe & Forever 21.

When it comes to shoes, don’t kill your feet! Especially if you live on a big campus or have to walk from building to building in less than 10 minutes – it’s a death wish and you’ll thank me later. Stick to print flats, classic Adidas sneakers or if the weather permits, wear those cute sandals you bought over the summer! Try your shoes out before the big day to see if they still fit and make sure you’ll be able to walk in them for at least more than 2 hours. You’ll find yourself walking a lot more with the amount of errands you’ll end up having by the first week.

Congratulations, you’re now college bait! Don’t be afraid to show off your school spirit and buy some cute tee’s and sweatshirts from your bookstore. You’ll be surprised to see how many people wear their college gear on a daily basis, it’s festive with little thought yet casual enough to go to class and even the gym after!

When it comes to your handy dandy backpack, the classic 2-strap will suffice to alleviate any back pain you may have from your textbook buildup. I personally carry a tote around from Scoutbags.com ($39) because they manage to keep all my shenanigans in place including my laptop, they contain several pockets and the designs online are to die for. I would definitely check them out if you’re on the hunt for a new school bag and if you’re a tote kind of person.

Lastly, dressing for success means preparing for any and all situations. Keep this list in mind and evaluate anything you may want to bring with you to class as you walk to and from your dorm room/apartment.

  • Headphones for the walk to class
  • Gum to keep you focused, it’s good for stimulation but don’t be a loud chewer!
  • Your wallet and school I.D
  • Pads/tampons: you never know whose life you might save!
  • A snack just in case you have back to back classes and can’t make it to the dining hall.
  • Finally, deodorant and perfume. It may sound strange at first, but on incredibly hot days and long walks, you might find yourself needing some as you head to the bathroom before class. As you walk out of the bathroom, mist some body spray for a fresh, sweet smell.

I hope you take my list and spin it to the best version for yourself. Of course as you get adjusted to college you’ll find out what’s best for you and what’s best to simply leave in your dorm.

Take my fashion advice with a grain of salt and be you. You’ll find friends right away for just being yourself and you might get some compliments here and there throughout the day for adding that extra glam to your natural shine.

Have an amazing first week of classes, I know you’ll do amazing. Xoxo
